    As to your question: I prefer the less leaded-out, narrower line spacing of the first example myself. One thing I’ve done more often with my own sonnets is to use stanza breaks with greater line spacing to indicate inner stanzic components I construct them out of.

    1. My eye prefers the closer spacing as well. I sometimes use stanza breaks as well, more of the Italian classical sonnet structure, even if rhyming scheme is more English Shakespeare. Generally the poem guides that process but there are some poems I have written that have morphed over time from one style to the next.
