Learning To Love

Chana Bloch (1940 – 2017)

We Look With Uncertainty….

Anne Hillman

We look with uncertainty
beyond the old choices for
clear-cut answers
to a softer, more permeable aliveness
which is every moment
at the brink of death;
for something new is being born in us
if we but let it.
We stand at a new doorway,
awaiting that which comess…
daring to be human creatures,
vulnerable to the beauty of existence.
Learning to love.

Day-Blind

by Chana Bloch

One clap of day and the dream
rushes back
where it came from.  For a moment
the ground is still moist with it.
Then day settles.  You step onto dry land.

Morning picks out the four
corners, coffeepot, shawl of dust
on a cupboard.  Stunned
by brightness, that dream –
where did it go?

All day you grope in a web
of invisible stars.  The day sky soaks them up
like dreams.  If you could see
in the light, you’d see what fires
keep spinning, spinning their mesh of threads

around you. They’re closer
than you think, pulsing
into the blue.  You press your forehead
to the cool glass.
They must be out there in all that dazzle.

Fourteen Lines: A Sonnet Obsession

I hope you enjoy my curated selection of sonnets, short poems and nerdy ruminations. I am pleased to offer Fourteenlines as an ad and cookie free poetry resource, to allow the poetry to be presented on its own without distractions. Fourteenlines is a testament to the power of the written word, for anyone wanting a little more poetry in their life.

  1. Hello and thank you for your regular doses of written word and poetry. I have several friends who at one time or another lived in Minneapolis, and then of course, On Being with Krista Tippett and their wondrous podcast, Poetry Unbound – my daily walking companion. You might enjoy hearing spoken word on http://www.RoadHome.FM, a locally curated 24/7 program produced by Bob Chelmick. Between poetry, background birdsong, and ramblings about life off grid with his “Nac Pac” of dogs, horses and now Highland cattle, quite a wonderful bit of listening. I, too, blog, and every Friday give space to poets accompanied by photos from my collection. Thank you and kindest regards, Katharine
